Lot Description
I Wayan Eka Budi (b. 1968, Indonesian), Bineka Tunggai Ika, ink on canvas, 200 x 400 cm (78 3/4 x 157 1/2 in.), signed on lower middle.
I Wayan Eka Budi, born in 1968, is a young painter that was born to a generation of famous Balinese painters. He is the son of the famous artist I Wayan Bendi, whose recent passing was a tragedy for the Balinese art world, and grandson to I Waran Taweng. Budi’s drawing watercolours are similar to that of his father in that they portray the interrelationship of mythology, history, tradition and the contemporary reality in a chaotic scene. I Wayan Eka Budi commonly infuses lighter notes or whimsical traits to the broader tumultuous environments he depicts. His work has been collected by the Rudolf Bonnet Foundation and is on display at the Agung Rai Museum of Art in Bali.
