About the Artist
I Ketut Kasta, born in 1945, in Peliatan in the Ubud region of Bali, was an important traditional Balinese painter that was known for his Tebesayan style. As a youth, Kasta painted under the guidance of the Tebasaya painter master I Wayan Djudul, who painted the various Balinese dances that included the Arja dance, Legong dance and Baris dance. Kasta’s work was mainly centered around daily life in the village that included dancers, market scenes, women weaving. His figures are meticulously painted and easily recognizable as they are painted with oil on canvas in the traditional wayang style, where limbs and hands and are elongated and slender in nature. His works such as the “The dance drama Arja (Tari Arja)”, oil on canvas amongst others, can be found at the Agung Rai Museum in Bali, Taman Ismail Marzuki Arts Center in Jakarta and in galleries in Singapore and various parts of Europe.

The painting is in very good condition. The pigment and canvas appear to be in good condition, free of deformations, holes, tears or creases. Minor scratches are found at some areas.
