About the Artist
Ida Bagus Ketut Panda, born in 1941, is a Batuan painter who was trained by his father, Ida Bagus Made Togog (1913 – 1989). His father is recognised today as one of the most prominent artists of the Batuan painting which emerged in the 1930s and has appeared since then as a preeminent Balinese artistic style. Panda’s watercolour paintings portray traditional village life and mythical scenes, which Batuan style painters are famous for, paying homage to his late father. Some of his painting colours have distinguished contrasting elements which make them immediately recognisable. One such painting is the most remarkable “Village life”, 1989, on paper, where he discerningly used bright blue hues in a corner of his artwork in contrast to the mute warm tones of the rest of the landscape.
